THE LIU STORY

Long Island University (LIU) was founded in 1926 to educate and empower men and women from all walks of life, and has grown into one of the nation’s largest private universities. The University continuously strives to cultivate and expand academic, professional, artistic, and co-curricular opportunities.

LIU’s Mission
Long Island University’s mission is to provide excellence and access in private higher education to people from all backgrounds who seek to expand their knowledge and prepare themselves for meaningful, educated lives and for service to their communities and the world.

The university expanded in 1951 when it purchased the estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post to better meet the educational needs of the growing suburbs. Just 27 miles east of New York City on Long Island’s idyllic Gold Coast, LIU Post is a scenic and historic campus that offers a small-school environment with the resources of a major metropolitan university. The campus is a leader in cultivating  ntrepreneurial spirit in our students through a feebased student consultancy with real corporate clients, a high-tech startup incubator, and
student-run businesses. LIU Post’s 320-acre grounds are home to the world-renowned Tilles Center for the Performing Arts and the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, home to Division I football.

Opened in 1926, LIU Brooklyn continues to enable students to realize their full potential as ethically grounded, intellectually vigorous, and socially responsible global citizens. The thriving, urban campus offers more professional programs in health care than any other single campus in the New York metropolitan area. The Schwartz College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and The Heilbrunn School of Nursing boast state-of the-art laboratories. LIU Brooklyn is also home to Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, a dynamic performance venue designed to nourish students’ artistic exploration while providing the community with greater access to an exciting range of professional performances.

LIU Global offers a one-of-a-kind bachelor’s degree without borders. LIU Global’s immersive learning experience spans eight countries on four continents, preparing students for careers as global leaders in business, policy, humanitarian relief, social entrepreneurship, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
